Study of Wild Begonia with flowers

The second of three studies of  my wild Begonia – this time spending a little more time on the beautiful dainty flowers.  The cultivated Begonias have much larger and more colourful flowers.  But I love the way these flowers and the velvety purple – green leaves hang from their pot in my studio.

It is painted on fine Japanese mulberry paper, using traditional Sumi black ink and coloured mineral water colour, then float mounted and framed in natural ash.  The chop, applied in rouge just above the signature, means “graceful”.

Size: 375mm x 445mm.
