This is a study of a cheese plant with a new leaf unfolding.

I painted a number of studies of the two enormous cheese plants that share my studio during the first lockdown in the spring of 2020.  I was aware that all these painting and drawings reflect the mix of emotions and  feelings of claustrophobia of those first weeks of isolation.  I think  the new leaves happily sprouting in that glorious spring sunshine gave me some hope.

It is painted on very fine Japanese mulberry paper using black Sumi ink, float mounted and framed in natural ash.  The chop, pressed in rouge and placed under the signature , means “dancing brush”.
